Your Circumstances Don’t Define You

Updated: Oct 30, 2021

Do you feel you often feel as if you are the victim of bad circumstances? Maybe you think that all you’ll ever have is bad times. If either sounds familiar, then it’s time you stop letting your circumstances dictate who you are. It's time to change your attitude so that you can change your life.

Your Thoughts Affect Your Attitude

You may be wondering just when you decided that your circumstances were the sum total of your life in the first place right? And this happens because you are busy thinking negative thoughts about your life and the challenges you are facing. When you do this, your negative thoughts are reflected in your emotions, your actions, and ultimately your attitude. That’s why the only way to change you attitude is by changing your thoughts; it’s really that simple.

Instead of thinking of everything that you perceive is wrong in your life, try starting each day with a positive thought, and surrounding yourself with positive vibes and energy. This will help create a more positive mindset, and in the process, you will notice that your attitude will become more positive as well.

Once you create a habit of positive thinking and positive behaviors you will only want to be in the presence of like-minded people who are part of a supportive environment. This is how you’ll be able to change the narrative and recreate yourself.

Your Attitude Affects Your Interactions

You may think that your attitude doesn’t matter, or that it doesn’t affect your daily interactions, but that is completely false. When you have a poor or negative attitude you carry a negative energy. You also speak and act in that negative way, and others will respond to your words and actions accordingly.

Think of it this way, when you meet someone for the first time, and have a negative attitude, they may not want to see you again. But that person could be an essential contact to have on the journey to your success, and you blocked whatever blessing they carried because of your attitude. This is why it is essential to your success, whether personal or professional, for you to have a good attitude. And once you commit to changing your attitude, you’ll be able to change your life.

Your Environment Is Neutral

It’s so easy to blame your circumstances for where you are in your life. You’ll say things like “if I lived in a bigger house, or if I had a better job, or if my spouse was better, I would be better.” But your environment, no matter how you look at it, is neutral and only you can decide how your life will be in spite of it. Your life is a blank canvas that you can paint any way that you want. This means whatever your circumstances may be, you are the artist and the power to change your life lies in your own hands.

Leave The Past Behind

Once you’ve decided that it’s time to change your attitude in order to transform your life, then it’s time to not only think positive thoughts, but to put some positive actions behind them. Along with that, it’s also time to leave the past behind.

This means whatever you may have done, or whatever may have happened to you, and whoever you were before, it’s time to let it all go, in order to make room for new blessings. You need to understand that you are responsible for every single thing that happens in your life. This means if you want to make your life better, you absolutely can, and you don’t need the past telling you who you are or what to do.

Yes, taking the leap to stop letting your circumstance define you is difficult, anything that causes you to grow always is. But if you are deeply committed to changing your attitude, you can guarantee your life will follow. Just remember to watch what you think, how you speak about and how you treat yourself, and pay attention to how certain thoughts make you act.

Don’t let your past define you, and instead let it be the catalyst for your new beginning. Before you know it, you will have a new positive attitude and be on your way to becoming the person you were purposed to be and serve those you were purposed to serve.
