Happiness is Your Choice

Updated: Jan 16, 2022

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and started criticizing your appearance? You say things like I’m too fat, my nose is too big or small, I hate my freckles, and on and on it goes. There is always that little voice in your head that keeps on putting you down and you just can’t seem to turn it off. Well, you can learn to shut that voice and all those negative thoughts down for good, they are just pulling you down and stopping you from being happy. Happiness is a choice, one that you must make for yourself. Happiness cannot be obtained through outside sources; no person or thing will make you happy unless you are happy with yourself, and you need to choose to be happy. Keep reading….

Firstly, you need to be yourself, forget that nonsense about trying to fulfil other people’s expectation. You can’t live your life for others because if you fulfilled their expectations, would you feel happier? The answer is NO, so start living life for yourself!

Second, you need to learn to accept yourself for exactly who you are. Take a piece of paper and write down all your flaws write down everything that you think you hate about yourself. Now, tear that shit up! You need to learn to accept yourself, so write down a list of the things that you love about yourself, the more the better. Always remember to be kind to yourself. You will soon discover there are plenty of things to love about yourself.

Third, take out the emotional trash. Do you have people in your life who are always putting you down? Well, you definitely don’t need those kinds of people in your circle. You might not be able to change the people around you, but you can change the people you are around. Don’t worry, you won’t lose out.

Fourthly, laugh everyday. Hang out with your friends or family, watch a funny movie, have long chats, and reminisce about the good days that have gone by, and get excited about the days to come! Laughter will help you relax, boost your immune system, ease symptoms of depression and anxiety, and it feels good too, so learn how to laugh!

Finally, try something new! Get out there and try a new experience every single day. Life is too short to be spent in the same old routine day in and day out and that routine can lead you to being depressed about where you are in your life. So, try something new and open yourself to a new world with new possibilities. You never know, you may have some hidden talent or passion that can lead to a more purposeful life you will get to see yourself in a whole new light.

So what are you waiting for? Make the wise decision of being happy today. You have the choice and you might as well choose it now.
