Getting Started: 4 Tips For The New Entrepreneur

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

It’s a great time to be a woman entrepreneur—technology has leveled the playing field in the last two years and created an entrepreneurial revolution, and women are leading the charge! As an entrepreneur, you now have more access to information that enables you to make intelligent choices quickly. As a result, you have an advantage over bigger businesses because you’re lighter, more flexible, and faster on your feet. As a result, you can target new markets more quickly and pivot when trends call for it.

But being a successful entrepreneur also means looking at the big picture and creating and following a plan from beginning to end. It’s imperative that you map out your business plan so that you know where you want your business to go and how you will get there. Here are some practical guidelines that can help you when building your enterprise:

1. Don’t Quit Your Day Job Just Yet

I know you have heard countless stories of people quitting their jobs and finding what seems like instant success in their businesses. It even looks tempting to quit yours and dive in headfirst. Don’t do that. As frustrating as it may be, remember you need to use some of that money to get things going in your company and keep your household running.

Consider starting your business part-time, especially if it’s online, while you’re working and have a steady income. It usually takes six months to a year to get a business going, and you don’t want your ability to make your house payment to hinge upon your company being an overnight success. Instead, start with what you can manage, financially and timewise, and scale up as your business grows.

2. Find Your Niche

You became a coach because you wanted to use your knowledge and expertise to help others achieve their goals, and you want to help as many folks as possible right? But, you are a Jane of all trades and a master of none. Stop it. You and your services are not for everyone, and everyone is not for you and your services. You must find a need—something a specific group of people want but can’t get from anyone else but you—and fill it. Become known as the go-to for whatever your specialty is and dominate that shit!

3. Have an Online Presence

No matter what business you are starting, your clients need to be able to find you online; you have to be searchable! The first thing people do is search Google, or social media to find out as much as they can about your products/services. That means you need to be everywhere your audience is, and they should be able to quickly find out who you are, what you do, and if other people recommend your work.

4. Refuse to Quit

Successful entrepreneurship requires creativity, energy, and a drive to keep going when you fail. Few people realize that before Bill Gates created the highly successful Microsoft 3.0, he made a Microsoft 1.0 and 2.0; both flopped—but he kept at it. And that determination and refusal to give up will separate successful entrepreneurs from unsuccessful ones. So arm yourself with optimism to get beyond the ‘No’ or the trouble. There’s nothing wrong with failure; in fact, it’s God’s way of telling you that you’re heading in the wrong direction. So—don’t repeat the same mistake!
