8 Ways to Unlock Your Potential and Find Your Purpose

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

If you’ve ever wanted to reach your potential and find your purpose, then you’re reading the right article! That’s because you’re about to discover some of the steps that I took to change my mind, reach my potential, and find my purpose! The good news is that as long as you’re committed to your own personal development, you’ll be able to implement these steps to set you on the right path!

Do you ever have the feeling that you need to accomplish more with your life? Do you feel like you have great potential locked up inside of you, but you just can’t pinpoint it? Most of us have felt that way at one time or another in our adult years, at least that was how I felt. That’s when I decided that I was too old not to have my shit together. Especially when I reached, and then passed forty! I started looking at my life and I didn’t like what I saw, but I was too busy focusing on what I thought my life should look like at that time, instead of being grateful for what it was and accepting that it was exactly as it should have been. Because my decision wasn’t built on the right foundation then, so I remained in that same rut. Even though I’ve always known that no one ever truly reaches their full potential, it was still a little discouraging that I hadn’t figured things out by then.

I still remember feeling like a loser at times, complaining about my life, and what it was missing. I actually sent myself into a bout of depression because I was looking back at my life and being upset about what it wasn’t. I would see people my age succeeding in life and think there was something wrong with me, and that thinking held me back from living the life that I knew I deserved. Once I realized that I was being held back by my limiting beliefs and thoughts about myself, my lack of self-love, and just being ungrateful, I began to change my thinking, my habits, my circle, and therefore my reality.

Things didn’t change overnight, but they did change when I was intentional about changing myself. Are you ready to find out what you can do to get yourself on track?

Find out what you’re really capable of accomplishing:

1. Be bold. This is the number one tip for unleashing your potential on the world. Your limited achievements are likely due to the fact that you are afraid. You fear what others might think or say about your newfound boldness and self-confidence. Stop caring about the opinions of others and show the world what you’ve got! People tend to try to hold you where they are comfortable with you being. They like to remind you of where you were, instead of celebrating where you are.

2. Have bold goals. To live up to your potential, you need goals. Goals provide a direction for your energy and effort. Effective goals are motivating, which is great if you’re going to set big bold goals! Avoid overwhelming yourself though, goals should be bold, yet realistic, or you’ll stress yourself trying to reach them.

3. Combine your strengths and interests. Do you really care about maximizing your chess-playing potential if you don’t enjoy playing chess? Of course not. You’ll find your potential in the things that come to you naturally, and those that pique your interest. What is something that you’re good at that you also enjoy doing?

4. Get expert assistance. Everyone needs help to get themselves to the next level. No matter who you are, and what your goal is, having someone who is doing what you want to do is going to make your journey a lot easier. Some of the leading experts in the world still have a coach or mentor, and the right one can help you to reach your potential faster than you can do it alone. Make the time to find a good coach and make the investment in yourself and your personal development. It’s like putting your progress on the fast track.

5. Make progress each day. You must work each day to achieve your goals. I’m not saying to spend every waking moment on them, but I am saying that even a small amount of progress, accumulated over time, will yield amazing result in amazing results! Avoid overwhelming yourself by setting a schedule or goals that you can’t maintain but DO create one and do your best to stick to it. The right coach will hold you accountable for doing what it takes to stay on track and reach those goals. The amount of progress you can make in a year would be staggering, and you’ll be glad you invested in yourself.

6. Develop habits that help you accomplish your goals. Keeping with the same theme of making progress each day, your habits are those things you do each day. An effective set of habits all but guarantees success.

· Examine your goals and determine what steps you need to take to make success likely. The hardest job you have is creating the habits that will serve as your foundation. Once the right habits are in place, and you are committed to your own success, there’s little else to worry about. Create an effective routine and stick with it.

7. Determine your obstacles. What is keeping you from taking the steps to meet your goals? Is it lack of time,(we make time for what’s important to us), money, (cancel some of those subscriptions), or lack of resources, (a coach can help with that)? Maybe you have a family that demands a lot of your time, and we let the excuses go on and on. Sometimes we can unconsciously create our own obstacles, so we have to get out of our own way.

· Create a plan for dealing with your obstacles. What can you do to overcome them, or at least minimize them? What do you need? What do you need to stop doing? How can you alter your life to make success more likely?

8. Expect success. If you expect failure, you will fail. Why not have faith and give yourself the benefit of the doubt and expect good things? If you have solid goals, good habits, an abundant mindset, and some discipline, there’s no reason to doubt yourself.

Making a few sound decisions, changing your mindset, showing gratitude, acting boldly, and finding a coach/mentor are just a few of the things you can do to unlock your potential and find your life’s purpose. Make today the day you start living at your highest level. What are you waiting for?
